genetically labelled appear as compact spots occupying any region of the adult wing of Drosophila. However, these clones stop along constant or invariant lines of the final organ. These mosaic borders delimit closed ‘compartments.” Compartments arise during development along with cell information by successive, binary, topographical partition of groups of cells with characteristic morphological fates. Fourteen such compartments have been identified in the wing. Some of these compartments are the realm of known expression of hornoeotic genes. Mechanisms of compartment formation: evidence that non-proliferating cells do not play a critical role in defining the D/V lineage restriction in the developing wing of Drosophila.
The dorsoventral (D/V) lineage boundary in the developing wing disc of Drosophila restricts growing cells to the prospective dorsal or ventral compartments of the wing blade. This restriction appears along the prospective margin of the wing some time during the middle to late stages of wing disc growth. It has been proposed that the restriction is established and maintained by the formation of ...
متن کاملEscaping the stem cell compartment: sustained UVB exposure allows p53-mutant keratinocytes to colonize adjacent epidermal proliferating units without incurring additional mutations.
Once mutated, a single cell must expand into a clone before becoming significant for carcinogenesis. The forces driving clonal expansion and the obstacles that must be overcome are poorly understood. In a genetic mechanism, acquiring a second mutation conferring a proliferative advantage would enable the cell to expand autonomously. If carcinogen exposure instead induced a physiological change,...
متن کاملGestational diabetes leads to down-regulation of CDK4-pRB-E2F1 pathway genes in pancreatic islets of rat offspring
Objective(s): The link between a hyperglycemic intrauterine environment and the development of diabetes later in life has been observed in offspring exposed to gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), but the underlying mechanisms for this phenomenon are still not clear. Reduced β-cells mass is a determinant in the development of diabetes (type 1 and type 2 diabetes). Some recent studies have provi...
متن کاملReview of Differentiation and Proliferation of Primordial Germ Cells in Culture
Primordial germ cells (PGCs) are highly specialized cell population that arises from the epiblast in vivo. There are three critical steps in the life cycle of these cells: 1-Specification 2-migration and proliferation 3-prenatal and postnatal sex specific development. Specification of germ cells in epiblast occurs due to signals secreted from extraembryonic tissues. Primordial germ cells are re...
متن کاملProliferating Pilomatricoma: A Case Report and Review of Literature
Proliferating pilomatricoma is a distinctive rare variant of pilomatricoma first described in 1997.Very few cases of proliferating pilomatricoma have been reported in the literature until date. This report is a case of 65 years old male presenting with hard nodular lump on the right side of neck slowly increasing in size for the last 8 months. Wide excision of the lump was performed with clear ...
